Five Trends in Men’s Fashion

Roaring Fashions, a bespoke and ready-to-wear men’s luxury clothier based in East Greenwich, released its annual guidance for men’s wardrobe essentials for Spring and Summer 2026.

“Timeless never goes out of style, so having a base of essential clothing pieces that every gentleman should own is key,” states Roaring Fashions Owner Cheryl Petteruti, an East Greenwich resident who is the only female men’s clothier in the state of Rhode Island. “Quality t-shirts, tailored dark-wash denim, and classic leather sneakers form three timeless foundation pieces. Trending pieces can then be layered onto the base, rounding out the wardrobe for a complementary, modern, updated style.”

When building an essential wardrobe, start with a few timeless pieces that provide versatility, polish, and ease. Every gentleman should start with a classic suit in either navy or charcoal grey, a crisp white and a small, patterned dress shirt, a refined tie and a pocket square. Shoes such as a well-made cap toe oxford in cognac and a coordinating belt can work with almost any suit or sport coat and pair

of trousers. From there, add versatile casual staples like dark denim, tailored five-pocket trousers, polos and quality tees, and knitwear such as merino or alpaca sweaters in different styles. A tailored overcoat, and leather gloves round out a wardrobe that transitions seamlessly across seasons and occasions.

“I just got back from a style show in Chicago, and we’re already seeing the styles that will be trending for later this year and beyond,” comments Petteruti.

Following are five “ins and outs” of a stylish essential wardrobe for men in 2026:

LAYERS: Vests continue to dominate the layering look. They are a versatile and incredibly sophisticated addition to any wardrobe, worn under a coat or as a piece of outerwear. Think linen, cotton, quilted or woven fabrics in both solid colors and subtle patterns.
FOOTWEAR: Stylish loafers or minimalist leather sneakers are the trend, but it’s important to know when to wear the right one. “Personally, I dislike the white trainer with a suit, regardless of how young or good looking the guy may be,” adds Petteruti.
SPORTCOATS: Sport coats can be worn casually with denim and trainer shoes, or with a turtleneck and wool trousers for sophistication. Tailoring is key. Not quite as slim as before, but still a tailored fit is in. It’s acceptable to go unstructured with the linen blends for a slightly more comfortable feel in hot summer weather.
COLORS/PATTERNS: Earth tones are big, such as olive, rust and deep navy. Pastels are in for spring and summer. Along with earth tones, lots of purple and burgundy are in for fall and winter 2026. Subtle fabric textures like Birdseye or hopsack are popular in wool blends. For patterns, think muted plaids or windowpanes.
TROUSERS: These are a bit fuller with side buckle and tab, and some have a side piece of elastic for comfort. “We are seeing the single reverse pleat in a lot of trousers, including denim,” Petteruti notes. “Out is the super-skinny and high-water look. Europeans are wearing a lot of boxier, double-breasted coats with high-waisted, wider leg, pleated pants so this trend is making its way to America.”
