Ideal Printing, LLC, recently moved into its new headquarters at 838 Dyer Avenue in Cranston.
According to Owner Joseph Palmquist, the move from its previous Warwick location came from expanding its shop to handle its increasing workload and the desire to become more visible.
“The new location has 3,100 sq. ft., which is nearly double the size of our last location,” said Palmquist of the move. “I also saw the chance to have more people pass by our shop. There are thousands of cars that travel on this road every day. That creates a lot of opportunities for people to come in and check out what we offer.”
The Dyer Avenue location also includes a conference room, showroom, front office, and other amenities. The building previously served as a manufacturing facility. This detail proved important to Joseph because it meant accessing numerous power sources around the building.

To commemorate the occasion, Palmquist held an Open House event on March 20th. People attending the event were treated to an office tour, food, beverages, apparel such as hats, t-shirts, koozies, and tumblers people could take with them and chances to win door prizes such as a portable speaker and a wide-screen television.
Those attending also witnessed the process in which orders come in and are processed. Their machines can handle thousands of items per day. The background décor also resembles a famous Boston landmark: The outfield at Fenway Park, everything from the Green Monster to Pesky’s Pole!
Palmquist said it was good to see familiar faces along with new customers discovering the shop for the first time.
“You often can’t tell the communities initial reaction of a new business once the doors open,” he said. “This was my way of introducing us to the community.”
Ideal Printing LLC specializes in apparel (T-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, jackets and much more). They can outfit schools, businesses, organizations and other such groups and events.
Palmquist said the journey to being an apparel supplier was far from linear.
Joe worked in IT two decades ago. Not wanting to sit behind a desk all day, he dreamed of owning his own business. There were several options available: owning a bar, a drycleaner, or a copy and print shop.
He said it didn’t take long for him to decide which business appealed to him.
“Owning a bar has its own set of challenges and my wife didn’t want to do laundry all day. So, going into printing and copying was the way to go,” he said.
They purchased Action Copy in Hopkinton, MA in 2004. Along the way, Joe added custom apparel to his services in 2010. He said doing that saved his company when other print shops were closing its doors. After 10 years in Hopkinton, Palmquist moved the business to Rhode Island and rebranded to ideal Printing, LLC, located at 24 Greco Lane in Warwick. They remained there for 12 years before coming to their new address in Cranston.

Joe cites the company’s customer service as its calling card. He said they receive plenty of orders of all types. He attributes much of their success to one important detail:
“Every person in front of us is our most important customer,” he said.
Palmquist said any size customer is a potential client, but small to mid-size companies are their sweet spot. They are also interested in working with youth groups, organizations, service groups and committees putting on events.
