Like many Rhode Islanders, I’ve always enjoyed going out and supporting local venues, musicians, DJs, comedians, karaoke nights, trivia events, and everything our local entertainment scene has to offer. Rhode Island may be a small state, but there is always something happening somewhere. The challenge is actually finding it.
One night at a local bar, I noticed something that stuck with me.
Two young women sitting nearby were trying to figure out where to go next. They were scrolling through Facebook groups, checking different websites, jumping between social media pages, and searching multiple platforms just to find something fun happening nearby. After several minutes, they looked completely frustrated.
At that moment, I thought to myself, “Why is it this difficult to find local entertainment?”
That simple question became the beginning of RI Event Finder.
I’m not a large tech company or a professional software firm. I’m just a local Rhode Island guy who saw a problem and wanted to create a

So, I started building the app myself.
What began as a simple idea quickly turned into years of learning, designing, testing, and improving. In fact, it took me close to three years to officially launch RI Event Finder. I knew I really only had one opportunity to make a strong first impression, and I didn’t want to rush the process. I wanted the app to feel polished, useful, and simple for people to use from the very beginning.
There were many late nights trying to figure things out, solve problems, and improve the experience. I had no large team behind me, only determination, patience, and a vision to make local entertainment easier to find.
I also had the support of friends who believed in the idea early on. A few close friends helped test the app, shared suggestions, reported issues, and gave honest feedback during development. Their support, patience, and ideas played a huge role in helping shape RI Event Finder into what it is today, and I truly appreciate every one of them.
RI Event Finder was created to help people easily discover local events happening around Rhode Island, including live music, DJs, karaoke nights, trivia, comedy shows, special events, and more.
The goal is simple: make it easier for people to find entertainment while also helping local venues and performers gain more exposure.
The app is completely free for users, and local venues and artists can also submit their events for free. Supporting local businesses and entertainers has always been an important part of the vision. Rhode Island has so many talented performers and great local venues, but many events often get lost across different social media pages and websites. I wanted to create one easy-to-use platform where everything could be found in one place.
RI Event Finder also includes features designed to make discovering events easier and more convenient. Users can browse events by category, search for events happening nearby, explore what’s happening today or later in the week, save events they’re interested in, and receive reminder alerts so they never miss an event they planned to attend. Local venues and performers can also submit their schedules directly through the app, helping keep the platform updated with fresh local entertainment happening throughout Rhode Island.
One of the things I’m most proud of is that the app was built with the local community in mind. This isn’t about creating another giant social media platform. It’s about helping people spend less time searching. It’s also about helping local businesses attract new customers and giving performers another way to promote what they do.

Since launching, the app has continued to grow with more venues, artists, and events being added regularly. Seeing people use something I created from scratch has been both exciting and rewarding. Hearing positive feedback from users, venues, and entertainers has motivated me to keep improving and expanding the platform.
At the end of the day, it all started because I saw two frustrated people trying to find something fun to do and I decided to do something about it.
My hope is that RI Event Finder continues to become a valuable tool for both residents and visitors looking to experience everything Rhode Island has to offer.
