The holidays are upon us; with that, we tend to be traveling on long car rides and hustling back and forth, shopping in stores.
In these times, we are limited in how much personal time we have in our day. Stress levels are high during this time, which can amplify pain or cause us to become rigid. It is important to prioritize some small movements in our day, to offset all the time we spend sitting and stressing out about everything that needs to get done for the year’s end.
Here are a few things you can do to keep the body loose, while still being able to manage all of your other obligations.
- If driving long distances, stop every 2 hours to get up and walk for 2-5 min. If you wanted to be bold, you could march in place for about 30 seconds to get the spine, hips, and shoulders moving, simultaneously.
- If you are at a desk for long hours, stand up and sit down, 5 times every hour, and pump your ankles up and down 15 times to keep the blood flowing.
- At home, hug your knees and roll on your back 10 times, like an egg. Don’t force the movement; just go where you can go comfortably. A bonus would be to lay on your back and roll side to side with your arms and legs to get more shoulder and hip movement.
All of these things can be done in a matter of minutes and will not suck up all of your time. Freeing up your body with a few minutes of intentional movement, can help alleviate your mind and decrease stress levels.
